How To Choose An Insulation Installer

The Australian Government has made it quite clear that in order to qualify for the $1600 $1200 insulation rebate, the individual or company who is contracted to install the insulation must;

a. Meet Australian Insulation Installation Standards AS 3999-1992

b. Meet the insulation product standards – AS/NZ. 48591:2002

c. Comply (as a minimum) to the specified R-value of Climate Zones and Council Regulations

d. Be listed on the Government’s Installer Provider Register or The work must be carried out by an installer that meets the government minimum competency requirements or supervised by an individual that satisfies these competency requirements and who signs off their work on the Work Order Form.

It is also important that the individual or company be listed on the official Insulation Installers register with the Government. To do so, they need to:

- At least 2 Years experience in installing insulation
- A trade license such as builder, plumber or electrician or have
- Completed a Government approved 2 day Installation course
- Or supervised by an installer that meets the above criteria and signs off on all the work performed.

However, as you can read from the guidelines, a number of businesses have blossomed to take advantage of the increase in demand for insulation installation by homeowners. As the only main competency requirement is that a company completes a basic 2 day course, you may want to use choose a company based on other requirements.
